A pair of long-running restaurants in the city announced their closure in recent weeks:
Metzger Bar & Butchery will close at 801 N. 23rd St. on Dec. 19, as will its adjacent cocktail bar, Pink Room. The German-inspired restaurant first opened in Union Hill in 2014.
Meanwhile in the Fan, The Savory Grain closed at 2043 W. Broad St. after over 13 years of serving New American fare.
Elsewhere in the Fan, Pho Heritage is now open at 1627 W. Main St., in the space formerly occupied by Heritage. Despite its name, the new Vietnamese restaurant has no affiliation with the building’s previous occupant. Behind Pho Heritage is the team that also owns downtown sushi spot Nami.
Opa! Social, a new Mediterranean restaurant from the former owner of Lola’s Farmhouse Bistro, is now open in Libbie Mill.
Sushi spot Lucky AF recently opened in The Evelyn, a new mixed-use building at 4701 Forest Hill Ave. It’s the third Lucky AF location for EAT, joining others in Scott’s Addition and Short Pump Town Center.
Two bakery chains recently cut the ribbon their new spaces:
Kentucky-based Biscuit Belly has converted the former Maple Street Biscuit Co. location at 11657 W. Broad St. in Short Pump into its first local spot, while Korean-French bakery chain Tous Les Jours opened its second Richmond-area location at 7401 Midlothian Turnpike. Tous Les Jours has another spot in the works near the intersection of Hull Street Road and Commonwealth Centre Pkwy.
1115 Mobile Kitchen is back on the road with a new truck. The local food truck had been temporarily sidelined following an accident over the summer.
Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint, including its Richmond location at 5810 Grove Ave., has been sold to Green Shoot Brands, a Florida-based investment firm whose portfolio includes hundreds of Auntie Anne’s and Jamba locations. Jack Brown’s was founded in Harrisonburg in 2009, and opened in the Near West End in 2014.
There has also been news from the city’s sports bar scene.
The former Pig & Brew space at 1313 Hull St. in Manchester is being converted into a new concept, Winners Sports Bar, per city planning documents.
In Scott’s Addition, Parlay Bar & Lounge recently received Richmond City Council approval for a special-use permit to allow it to operate an outdoor bar and entertainment area on its parking lot at 3117 W. Leigh St.
